Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM (GMT)
This is the second meeting of the London Business Book Club
A monthly meet up to swap, give away, recommend and talk about business books. The kind of books that have taught you, motivated you, inspired you, improved your understanding of psychology, sociology or other ologys.
The speaker for this meeting is Mark Earls talking about his book The Herd : how to change mass behaviour by harnessing our true nature.
Here's some things they had to say about it...
"If you're not practicing what Mark Earls is preaching, get comfortable being part of the back of the pack. There are few who understand the human like Mark does!"
Robert Varocci, President/CEO, The Advertising Research Foundation
"This book is a must. Once you have read it you will understand why Mark Earls is regarded as a marketing guru. And you will feel as though you understand the world a great deal better. And the other reason you have to read it? Everyone else is."
Daniel Finkelstein, The Times
"In Herd, Mark Earls helps make sense of how to influence the peer-to-peer mechanism that drives mass behaviour"
Seth Godin
Mark is admired and respected as a leading thinker about brand, marketing and mass behaviour. He has held senior positions in some of the largest and most influential companies in the world - his last job was as chair of Ogilvy's Global Planning Council, prior to which he was Planning Director at the revolutionary St Lukes Communications. He's also a really nice bloke, who you will like and will make you laugh.
Signed books will be available to buy on the night. More Herd talk at Blog Central http://herd.typepad.com/
SWAP TIME
One
of the important parts of the book club is “Swap Time”. Bring along a
book (or two) that you recommend to swap with other members. You get to
swap back at the next meeting or contact your swapee direct to unswap
once you’ve read the book.
Attendees are a mixture of senior
managers and professionals mostly working in creative industries,
marketing and communications.
The venue is the upstairs lounge at the Slug and Lettuce Pub in 19/20 Hanover Street. Westminster, London, W1S 1YR. Nearest tube is Oxford Circus http://www.slugandlettuce.co.uk/hanover_street/
We will be charging a mere £5 for this event. Just to cover the venue hire charge but it will INCLUDE YOUR FIRST DRINK at the bar
If you haven't already don't forget to check out our last speaker Maurice De Castro's book Hamster to Harmony. I've been saying to myself GET OFF THE WHEEL ever since www.hamstertoharmony.com.
Once a senior manager at Direct Line for many years and subsequently Commercial Director at Interflora, Maurice talks of his professional and personal life and how everything changed because of a hamster called Botley!
